Makan-makan time at Roti King, my take on it...

They say Asians have a thing for food, unlike their counterparts in the Western hemisphere, when it is time to eat, we'd rather go for a dish that tastes good rather than the one that is healthy. It is not that we are oblivious of the health benefits of the food in front of us, but instead when it comes to enjoying our food, we trust our mouth more than our head, savvy?

After Friday prayer yesterday, the three of us, me and my friends decided to explore a new dining place near Euston station that serves roti canai.

The place is a bit small with only about ten tables, and there aren't any waiters around too. In front, there was just this guy who makes the roti canai together with this Chinese lady who by herself served, manned the cashier and cleaned the tables.

Regardless of all that, like I said, we only came for the food. So we could not care less about the fact that it took the lady quite some time to take our order. She looked scary at first, but as we joked with her, she turned out to be pretty nice actually. Heck, she even gave a FREE fried egg for each of our nasi lemak! Thank you aunty!

The nasi lemak is amazing is simply awesome, I tell you.
First of all, surely, it has to be the sambal. Nothing makes a great a nasi lemak without a great sambal. If nasi lemak is the body, then the sambal has got to be its soul. The sambal here in this place is cooked to perfection. It is of the perfect colour, just by the looks of it, its consistency and all, you just know this is going to taste like a bomb in your mouth. The level of hotness is just right, not too spicy, but just enough for you to feel that 'kick'.

Then, we had the roti canai.
As the roti canai arrived to our table, smoking hot, my friend quickly noticed that the roti seemed a bit dry. They don't seem to be as moist as we'd hope it to be; you know when you sliced through a freshly cooked roti canai, the insides should be moist. When we asked the guy who made it, indeed we were right that it must have been made without ghee. He told us that he had to made do without it otherwise the locals here would not be able to even finish the dish. See, what did I tell you? We Asians eat with our mouth, not with our head.

The curry was also a bit disappointing. Yes it did tasted like a curry, but is it a great curry? I've tasted better. They used a tiny bit too much curry powder, that you can taste it. Also, there was not much heat coming from it too. But hey, that is just me. I like my curry strong.
Overall, the three of us agreed that this place has one of the best roti canai we've had here in London so far, especially given its price, what more could we ask more.

So there you have it. But hey, don't take my words for it.
The next time you're near Euston, do check this place out and have it a go for yourself.
The guy who makes the roti canai is from Ipoh, Perak so you can bet this is authentic Malaysian roti canai.
It is located at 40, Doric Way, Euston, NW1 1LH London.

I leave the rest to you.......
