Song of the week...

Have you ever heard voices inside of your head? No I don't mean it metaphorically, I mean for real! I don't know about you, but there are times when these voices came to me. They are vague at times, I am not particularly sure why they are even in my head in the first head. They kept telling me things which I don't want to hear, but deep in my guts I knew it to be true.

February's ending soon

February is ending soon. 28 days flew by in a glimpse just like that. What did I managed to accomplish within those 28 days? Nothing much, really. The biggest highlight of the month would have to be UCL Malaysian Night. Although I only had a small role to be played during the show, I was glad because at least I had a sense of purpose. Not many of friends came, but nevertheless, I wasn't expecting them to though because it was held on a Wednesday night. Who cares, just as long as I had fun, that was all that matters. Other than that, the opportunity to be the moderator for the MACFIS Islamic Finance Forum. The forum was very educating as I managed to know more about Islamic finance that has been the talk of many nowadays. Its been what, almost five months I am here in the UK now. How do I like it here? It's an exciting place to be. Why? Simply because people here are very open to things. Well, they are way too open actually, if you know what I mean. But nevertheless, being a gu

MACFIS Islamic and Conventional Finance Forum 2012

I attended a forum last night, this time it was of a different subject compared to last week. This forum was about Islamic Finance. It was held in conjunction with the 11th Annual Islamic Finance summit held in London this week. It was held in Malaysian Student department by MACFIS together with LSE Malaysian Society. I know, it's an LSE event, but given how big of a fan I was on the topic, I decided to give it a go. I rushed there as soon as my Arabic class finished at 3 pm. The speakers were Mr Badlishah, the CEO of Islamic Finance from CIMB Holdings, a very well known speaker on this particular subject, Mr Faizal Karbani, the CEO and founder of Simply Sharia, a consultancy firm which offers advice on sharia compliant for assets and investments, and the third speaker was Mr Justin Kew, a client adviser from JP Morgan. Basically the forum was all about Islamic finance. For some strange reason the organizer invited Mr Justin to be the representative of conventional banking,

Song of the week

Why this song?: Life is hard, we should all be well aware of that by now. Nothing ever comes easily, not in this life. The ups and downs we face in our everyday life are meant to open our eyes, unlocking our true potentials as well developing ourselves in becoming a better person today than who we were yesterday. But things do get very difficult at times, we would always be needing a helping hand, someone to help us get back on our feet. Won't it be nice to have people like that in our life? Yes we all have our problems, but that does not mean we ought to ignore the problem others face simply because we are too slammed with our own.  Inevitably, we all need the help of others, regardless of how big and powerful of a person we are. Humans would always be in need of assistance, won't it be nice if YOU can be that upper hand offering assistance to another fellow human being when he/she is down? Lend a hand to others, one day your own help will come. Just y

Personality vs Policy forum, my take on it

Now that Malaysian Night is over, I am back to my old job, attend to my studies and all. On Friday night, I went to LSE for a forum entitled Personality Vs Policy. Yet another talk on the grounds of politics. For some strange reason, there are awful lot of such talks I've attended since I came here. Perhaps all of this is spurred into motion by the fact that this is an election year, so politicians are really working hard to spread their ideas. As for myself who is most of the times frustrated with my own life and job, being present to talks like these are great opportunity for me to simply sit down, listen to their arguments and go back home to contemplate on them. The forum was attended by quite a few number. Frankly speaking, I was expecting to see a much bigger audience given that the topic was so exciting, unfortunately I was wrong. The room was barely filled by around 20 people, most of them are students, as always. And just like any other talks I've attended, I barely

UCL Malaysian Night 2012

Last night was our UCL Malaysian Night, yahoo! Sorry for being so excited, but it's just that we all have been working for this event for so long since last year that I can't help but to get hyped up as well! Even though we have been practicing like crazy, 12 hours a day from 9 in the morning till 10 at night for the past three days, it was all totally worth it! Plus, it was fun! All of us have worked so hard to make it happen, and thankfully last night turned out to be epic. Our tickets are sold out, the whole play went on very well, and the responses we got from the audience was superb, all in all, they all seemed to like it very much. They even praised our casts for coming up with such a quality performance. Never had so much fun performing on stage like this before! Maybe because the practice sessions were intensive, with all those tiring warm-ups and all. Enough said though, I think I'll let the video do the talking for me. Mind you though, if you were not here

Song of the week...

Sorry for the delay, but I was honestly too busy the last few days for our Malaysian Night. So here it is, the song of last week, in conjunction with Valentine's day a couple of days ago! Yes, I know I am neither supposed to be celebrating nor encourage people to celebrate it, but nevertheless, to celebrate 'love' seems so important to me. I guess, I could say that it is exactly what our world needs in times like this, with the ongoing war plus the recession and many more. Lets open our eyes and take a closer look of the world we're living in from a wider perspectives. Love is the very essence of life, a special force beyond compare. I leave the rest to you.......

What a week

Finally, reading week is here! Time for some rest, not quite. Last week has been very tiring for myself, but even so I really enjoyed it because I finally managed to do what I like to do the most, to present myself and making speeches. It's been quite some time since I last stood in front of an audience and talk. The above was the manifesto I submitted when I ran for the UCL Malaysian society president. I figured, might as well put it up somewhere before I delete this and let it be forgotten forever. To be honest, I was not proud of myself at all, nor was I impressed with I said to during my 3 minutes speech during the election. No, I didn't mess up like how I did when I ran for Student Council in KTJ a couple of years back, but still my speech didn't turned out to be like how I've imagined it to be like in my head. the draft of my speech the real stuff But one does not simply expect to be able to talk so much when he's given only 3 minutes to do so

Some songs are evergreen, some feelings remain true even after you're gone.

First impression

People keep telling me that first impression is always so important. It is the first rough sketch of a mental image of somebody you've just met. Which explains why people make sure their hair is neatly combed, tuck your shirt in and all. But I don't blame them, interviews are a one-time thing, so it's only fair for us all to act that way. In that sense, first impression is highly important. It is also useful when you're to build networking ties with people as it builds up the curiosity as well as the feeling of comfort in that certain someone so that he/she is looking forward to seeing you again. Well that is one of the basics of PR, obviously. From how I see it, people's definition of first impression itself is incomplete. We are too used to defining it as physically presenting yourself in a reasonable way in front of others that we sometimes neglect the fact that it actually is more than that. How you speak is equally important. For those of you who read the c
